Our Bespoke Radiator Covers: Beautiful And Built To Last

More than 22 million buildings in the UK are heated using radiator systems, from care homes and creches, to offices and private homes.

Although efficient, most radiators aren’t very attractive. Some have jagged edges and sharp corners, while others are rusty and grim-looking.

We can help.

Our expert team hand-crafts bespoke radiator covers in our Essex workshops that turn an unsightly radiator eyesore into something practical and beautiful.

A Short History Of Radiators

WhatsApp Image 2024-01-26 at 15.32.08.jpeg

It’s hard to believe in the 21st century, where almost every building has some form of central heating, but radiators are relatively new to the UK.

The technology was in use during the Victorian age but it wasn’t until the 1970s and 1980s that the idea of heating an entire building or home really took off.

Radiators were installed everywhere, from office buildings to schools, and hospitals to garages. The hardy residents of a chilly nation went from smelly, dirty open fires to clean and cosy warmth.

Why Opt For Made-to-measure Radiator Covers?

Let’s be honest, when it comes to interior design, whether for a restaurant, smart new office or your home, the average radiator is dull.

New ones serve no purpose other than to provide heat. Old ones might look slightly more interesting, but can come with all sorts of unpleasant extras.

Their peeling paint could be lead-based, there may be rust or the entire thing has been positioned in a random, inconvenient place.

Not only can unsightly heaters frustrate so many design plans, they can be an area of risk in your premises or home - particularly around little ones.

Our bespoke, hand-crafted radiator covers are the answer you’re looking for.

The Benefits Of Bespoke Covers
There are lots of advantages to fitting a bespoke radiator cover, hand-crafted by our expert team.

Heating A Room With A Custom Radiator Cover

First and foremost, a radiator cover helps push warm air into a room, rather than holding it back, increasing the energy efficiency of your central heating system.

Warm air rises, as without a radiator cover, heated air from the radiator ends up near the ceiling.

Our made-to-measure radiator covers include a gap at the skirting board level to draw colder air in. The radiator then heats it, before it is pushed out again through the top vent and grille.

Pretty And Protected

Nothing beats the feeling of knowing a scruffy or dull radiator is hidden behind one of our made-to-measure radiator covers.

The covers can turn a gloomy corridor or hallway into a pleasant place to be: one that always looks neat and tidy.

Our bespoke radiator covers may look delicate, particularly the grille, but they are hard-wearing and robust.

The cover also helps to protect the radiator beneath from damage by staff or pets. In a creche setting or in the home, our radiator covers can also prevent accidents involving very young children.

No problem.

Top Quality Materials

We don’t use solid wood to hand craft our made-to-measure radiator covers. Although a beautiful material, it is not suitable as a cover because of the moisture it contains.

Put that over a radiator and, over time, even good quality natural wood would warp and twist.

Instead, we use an engineered board material called medium-density fibreboard or MDF for our radiator covers. Fans of DIY shows may recognise the name.

It’s the ideal choice for a new radiator cover because, as a by-product of the timber industry, it’s sustainable. It’s also nothing like the MDF used in flat-pack furniture, which has given the material a bit of a bad name.

Solid And Durable Radiator Covers

MDF is made up of thin panels of wood fibre, resin and wax. They are then squeezed together, creating a stable, water-resistant board that is almost as dense, solid and durable as natural wood.

There are several varieties of MDF, depending on density, size, thickness, glue type, moisture content and wood species.

Our experts choose only the highest available grade: heavy, dense, water-resistant and heat-deflecting, for each cover they make.

Choose Your Radiator Cover Colour And Finish

The vast majority of new radiators are white but when it comes to creating your made-to-measure radiator cover, there are no rules at all.

Paint the grille of your radiator covers or leave them, that’s no problem. Colour the skirting but nothing else - consider it done.

You can choose from every colour found in the rainbow and our craftspeople will bring your cover to life. We always aim to make you a very happy customer.

If you don’t want a painted radiator cover, you can stick to a natural wood look, with or without a coat of varnish for a flawless finish. Whatever style you decide, the end result will be a stunning cover.

Accessing The Radiator

It’s a common misconception that covers make it harder to get to your radiator or the thermostatic valve, if the latter has to be incorporated into the radiator cover design.

This is not the case. Our made-to-measure radiator covers are all created with an easily removable front panel.

This seamless component will always fit perfectly, while also enabling you to access your wall radiator or the temperature valve.
